Bring Me The Horizon - "Post Human: Survival Horror" Album Review

In a time where everything seems to be changing and everything becomes more and more uncertain we turn to music to ease us out of difficult situations. As for Bring Me The Horizon the band set a challenge for themselves and that was to create an epic story line of four eps titled "Post Human"; and with this first installment "Survival Horror" we enter this new era with some of the band's heaviest music ever conceived.

"Survival Horror" hits hard with some of the band's heaviest music gauging from hard hitting hard rock anthems, to Linkin Park esque nu-metal heavy hitters, to even some tracks that tease some menacing metalcore reminiscent of the "Suicide Season" and "There Is A Hell" eras that will get fans old and new excited for the band's return to form to heavy music.

The album's opener 'Dear Diary' let's everyone know that the band has not lost their touch with heavy music as the track hits hard with fast paced metal riffage and old-school metalcore attitude that flashes an anger filled middle finger to the world that we currently live in.

'Parasite Eve' is a fantastic moment that sends the listener into unease as the track disturbs the listener with tribal chants, glitchy horror esque effects, and a menacing hook that hits home the allegories of Covid-19 to that of the fictional video game series Parasite Eve.

'Teardrops' enters banger status with some infectious nu-metal and hard rock reminiscent of bands like Linkin Park, Deftones, Slipknot and more cultivating in one of the catchiest tracks that the band has ever made.

'Obey' comes in hard with an arena rock styled anthem that sores with an infectious hook; the additional vocals from Yungblud are fantastic bringing in a rap-rock sort of feel to the track, ending with a manic closer filled with a wall of demonic guttural screams and a panic inducing ending that is nothing short of jaw dropping.

'Kingslayer' oozes perfection with a hard hitting rocker combined with the vocal talents of BABYMETAL bringing a essence of Japanese metal to the mix.

'1x1' which features the punk duo Nova Twins is yet another old-school sounding nu-metal track that brings the styles of Linkin Park while adding it's own flare giving it some "Sempiternal" and "That's The Spirit' vibes.

'Ludens' still hits hard a year later adding some vibes of "That's The Spirit" and "Amo" bringing in some pop friendly appeal that makes nothing short of excellent.

And finally the closing moment 'One Day The Only Butterflies Left Will Be In Your Chest As You March Towards Your Death' which features a haunting vocal performance from Amy Lee of Evanescence fame closes the record off with a haunting ballad with a small ounce of hope in this horror world of "Post Human".

It's safe to say that Bring Me The Horizon has dropped one of the best pieces of music of their career with "Post Human: Survival Horror" as the record fits nicely in the band's discography and it perfectly combines everything that we love about BMTH while also adding it's own merits to making it an almost perfect record.

This is one of the band's best records and it's an enthralling opener that perfectly introduces us to the world of "Post Human". - Samuel Cook
