Machine Gun Kelly - "Tickets To My Downfall" Album Review

Image
In a genre that seems on the tails of a resurgence in mainstream popularity comes well known rapper and singer Machine Gun Kelly who back in 2019 dipped his toes into pop punk and rock on his record "Hotel Diablo" which in tern set the bar for what would come on his first ever pop punk project "Tickets To My Downfall"; but there is a question that lingers, is the record a hit and a future staple of the genre? or is the record a flop and will fall into forgettable territory?. "Tickets To My Downfall" falls into two different categories with one being a record carried heavily by it's influences and the other being a record that tries to bring in modern touches to the core sound while making the record seem shallow and all over the place; but to the record's credit it does change up things here and there that keeps the record in some sort of focus. The record's opener and title track (which wittingly titled 'Title Track') is a track that s...

Empty - "Hope And The Loss Of It" Album Review (One Year Of HATLOI)

Image
In 2017 a local band from Myrtle Beach hit the scene and made an impact on a small but loyal fanbase. After being signed to Solid State Records in 2019 the band made waves with an incredible debut record called "Hope And The Loss Of It". This record means a lot to the fans who have heard it and is a record that has a message that they want to get across; and since the record released a year ago today, why not revisit this record and point out why this record is a force to be reckon with. "Hope And The Loss Of It" is one of those records that hits you with emotion and grit; It's a record that harkens back to the early days of emotional hardcore with some modern twists to it. As a post-hardcore record you would think that the record comes with some of the tropes that sometimes ruins records like this but the fact of the matter is is that this is a record that takes the style and elevates it to something that you would not expect from a record of it's kind.  Th...

Bring Me The Horizon - "Obey" Single Review

Image
In the midst of quarantine and self isolation bands and artists have been getting creative with their talents and have been turning out new music and Bring Me The Horizon have been surprising fans with more heavy inclined music after the more pop focused Amo that released last year. After the surprisingly heavy "Parasite Eve"; the rollout for "Post Human" seems like it is going to house a much heavier release, and with this new track "Obey" we see the band continuing down the road of heavy music with some nods to earlier records. "Post Human" has already made an impact and with the band's return to heavy music, the return has been long awaited. Like the previous track "Obey" is yet another in your face moment that has a lot going for it and with the added help from Yungblud the track has some tenacity and bite to it that has been missed. The track features some arena rock energy that feels very reminiscent of the "That's Th...
