Bring Me The Horizon - "Obey" Single Review

In the midst of quarantine and self isolation bands and artists have been getting creative with their talents and have been turning out new music and Bring Me The Horizon have been surprising fans with more heavy inclined music after the more pop focused Amo that released last year. After the surprisingly heavy "Parasite Eve"; the rollout for "Post Human" seems like it is going to house a much heavier release, and with this new track "Obey" we see the band continuing down the road of heavy music with some nods to earlier records.

"Post Human" has already made an impact and with the band's return to heavy music, the return has been long awaited. Like the previous track "Obey" is yet another in your face moment that has a lot going for it and with the added help from Yungblud the track has some tenacity and bite to it that has been missed.

The track features some arena rock energy that feels very reminiscent of the "That's The Spirit" and "Sempiternal" days while having it's own sound that's unique to the track itself; the track's aggressive tone is flooring with it's central meaning being a protest type anthem about not being brainwashed by a corrupt government, it's a message that we all need right now especially during the current political climate.

The track's aggression makes for a flooring head bang worthy experience as the track starts off with some catchy riffs and a sense of urgency. Lead vocalist Oli Sykes sounds incredible here with his dynamic of cleans, yells, and screams; and his low screams throughout the track are spot on and will remind fans of the "Sempiternal" and "There Is A Hell" days; and Yungblud sounds really nice here as he brings some nice almost "trap" leaning elements to his performance and some really surprising screams from him that will catch you off guard with how intense they are; and the breakdown on this track is honestly one of the best breakdowns to come out of a rock song from the build up to the execution is flawless.

This is Bring Me The Horizon in their purest form and "Obey" is a welcomed edition and a nice throwback to the band's older styles of music, and feels like a step forward to more heavy inclined music. - Samuel Cook
