Single Review | Bring Me The Horizon "DiE4u" (BMTH goes pop punk?!)

Image
"SO PULL THE TRIGGER" The time has come. After the massive release "Post Human: Survival Horror" in 2020, which signaled the return of the raw and heavy sound that Bring Me The Horizon were strongly known for in the past; fans were eager to find a super heavy and enthralling sound that in some cases had been absent since releases like "Sempiternal" or "There Is A Hell Believe Me I've Seen It, There Is A Heaven Let's Keep It A Secret" , letting people know that the band had not abandoned the metalcore infused sound that they were at one point known very strongly for. And, with the the release of their new single "DiE4u" we see the band familiar territories while also adding in new elements never before seen in their discography. What makes "DiE4u" such an interesting piece of work is the flowing perspectives of what seems like two different eras of the band's evolving sound, while also paving it's own lane to cr...

Single Review | Anberlin "Two Graves" (They are back from the grave. And they are heavy)

Image
"IF YOU WANT REVENGE, THEN YOU SHOULD DIG TWO GRAVES" It's time. After years of isolation, Anberlin have returned with their first release in over 7 years since the release of their (as of now) final record Lowborn in 2014. After all of this time in-between releases, what does "Two Graves" have in store? and what does the band bring to the table after all this time away? What makes "Two Graves" so special is the overflowing creativity and longevity that the band has been known for after all this time, the band's long-standing career has made them able to create and craft beautiful pieces of alt-rock bliss, and "Two Graves" might be among some of the bands' best and arguably "heaviest" material to date. The evolving sounds of alt-rock and emo angst with additional elements of post-hardcore and hard rock,  bring the track an extra added punch with a fast paced energy that crushes with all force. The electrifying guitar and bas...

"DEATH FALLS LIKE A HAMMER FROM THE HEAVENS!" Phinehas are back, and this time it's for good. After many rumors about the bands' return surfacing since late 2019, we finally have our hands on the lead single and the first taste of what's to come from the highly anticipated new record "The Fire Itself" once again through Solid State Records . Throughout their career, Phinehas has shown impressive musical dexterity. From their earliest beginnings with their thrash roots, to the heavy-hitting and emotionally impacting "Till The End" , and the impressive lyricism of "Dark Flag" , Phinehas has proven time and time again that they can hold their own in the scene with some of the best and biggest  metalcore bands in the scene as we know it. What makes "In The Night" stand out from the rest of their discography, is the fact that it combines every sound that they have created over the years and improve upon it. The song comes comp...

Single Review | Memphis May Fire "Blood & Water" (A glorious return to heavy music.)

Image
"You can't believe what you hear from the mouth of a serpent." On Friday, Memphis May Fire released the first single from their upcoming 2021 album release "Blood & Water" , and it sounds better than anyone would've imagined. They've completely trashed the edgy "alt-dad rock" sound that was heard on  "Broken" ; an album that even diehard fans refuse to acknowledge its existence, and decided to go HEAVY once again.  The heavyweight metalcore titans from the Lone Star State have always been well known for mixing heavy music with soaring melodies and unique guitar riffs, with their most well known and critically acclaimed discography consisting of "The Hollow" and "Challenger."  While "Unconditional"  and "This Light I Hold"  are considered to be acquired tastes and pale in comparison to their aforementioned work, these albums are solid and deserve to be heard. After hearing the divisive rel...

System Of A Down - "Protect The Land/Genocidal Humannoidz" Double Single Review

Image
As we cap off another year and reflect on what had happened throughout the year which was essentially one of the most divisive years of them all what with an ongoing pandemic, the fate of the united states seemingly up in the air, and an ongoing conflict in other countries. The fact that 2020 has given us opportunities to speak up and raise awareness on these topics is a saving grace. As for System Of A Down the way they are speaking out is, you guessed it new music; this is the first release from System in 15 years so the excitement levels are high but the question is is this a true quality release from a veteran band?, Of course it is, it's System Of A Down we're talking about here. This is without a doubt one of the best releases from a veteran band well long into their career and the fact that these singles are donations in themselves to raise awareness for the ongoing conflicts in Artsakh and Armenia are charitable acts of raising awareness through music and these two sing...

Bring Me The Horizon - "Obey" Single Review

Image
In the midst of quarantine and self isolation bands and artists have been getting creative with their talents and have been turning out new music and Bring Me The Horizon have been surprising fans with more heavy inclined music after the more pop focused Amo that released last year. After the surprisingly heavy "Parasite Eve"; the rollout for "Post Human" seems like it is going to house a much heavier release, and with this new track "Obey" we see the band continuing down the road of heavy music with some nods to earlier records. "Post Human" has already made an impact and with the band's return to heavy music, the return has been long awaited. Like the previous track "Obey" is yet another in your face moment that has a lot going for it and with the added help from Yungblud the track has some tenacity and bite to it that has been missed. The track features some arena rock energy that feels very reminiscent of the "That's Th...

Slick Shoes - "Whispers" Single Review

Image
Slick Shoes - "Whispers" Legendary punk rock band Slick Shoes have returned. After laying dormant for years the band returned in 2018 and have been going at it ever since; With the announcement of their comeback record "Rotation & Frequency" we were gifted the lead single titled "Whispers" which begs the question does this track hold up to the Slick Shoes standards?, the answer is yes as this is Slick Shoes in their truest form and has been pleasing fans thus far. This is Slick Shoes at their prime as the track shows us that this is a band that can come back after years of slumber and come back hitting harder than ever; This track feels like it could have come out of the "Self-Titled" or "Far From Nowhere" as well as a hint of "Rusty" in there for good measure. The production on this track is crisp, the riffs from Jackson Mould and Jonah Peterson are top notch, the drumming from Joe Nixon are fast paced and exhilarating, a...

If I Die First - "Where Needles And Lovers Collide" Single Review

Image
If I Die First (Independent Super Group) In 2020 Post-Hardcore is generally not as fresh as it used to be what with more modern tending to hop on more modern trends to influence their sound. Well with If I Die First that logic completely does not apply here and instead goes back to the basics and makes a hard hitting and well invested rock song. If I Die First being a supergroup is compiled of soundcloud rappers Lil Lotus and Lil Zubin in addition to guitarist Nedar Braden, Travis Richter of From First To Last, and Ghostemane members Rake and Kale. To classify If I Die First is simple; they are without a doubt a post-hardcore / screamo band straight out of the scene days of the early 2000's. The band's post-hardcore and hard rock sound feels very nostalgic and well produced, the vocals from both Lil Lotus and Lil Zubin sound great and flow very well together, and the music is crisp and well played. My main complaint with the overall package is the lyrics; there's just somet...

Peabod - "Big Feelings" Single Review

Image
Peabod - "Big Feelings" In the current world of hip hop the brand has now been associated either soundcloud rap or trap rap, but there is one rapper that has been making a name for himself with his own brand of "Happy Rap" is the one and only Peabod; who made a big splash in 2018 with his debut full length titled "Healthy Snacks" which was a nice mix of quirky yet thought provoking pop rap and alternative hip hop ala John Reuben or Hoodie Allen. With this new track "Big Feelings" however we see a more darker style and tone compared to Peabod's previous work dealing with a wide variety of topics that currently plague modern life; this is definitely a more mature vibe for Peabod and it's a welcomed edition to his catalog. Now Peabod is no stranger to having guest features on his tracks going from the likes of Hollyn, Sky The Pilot, Oweshin, Chad Mattson of Unspoken, Marty of Social Club Misfits. This time around it's underground rapper ...
