Single Review | Meadows "The Depths" (Modern hardcore at it's finest.)

"You've lost yourself to the world"

On Friday, The melodic-hardcore band Meadows released their first label single from their forthcoming album release "In Those Days & Also After, Pt. III", and it is what you would expect from the Birmingham native hardcore band. They're creativity soars as they venture into an new era with their new label Facedown Records (War Of Ages, Fallstar, Sleeping Giant), And completely kill the game with their unique yet confident hardcore meets post-hardcore and rock sound.

The hardcore band from the Yellowhammer State are a band that hardcore fans should grow accustomed to as their unique perspective to songwriting excels along with their tightly written melodic-hardcore hooks make for an excellent package filled with so much passion and a hopeful message that even the more religiously inclined fans can gravitate towards a band like this that have so much potential and room for growth. The band's melodic-hardcore stylings mixed with the harsh tenacity of acts like Counterparts, Stick To Your Guns, and Close Your Eyes, give the band the perfect edge to writing consistent hooks throughout their short lifespan; and with this new song "The Depths", we see that creativity shine.

The tracks kicks off with a fast paced drum roll that does indeed get the heart pumping, eagerly awaiting for what comes next, and what comes next is a very melodic and punchy guitar lead before kicking it into a very "in your face" feel that's both catchy and energetic, getting the listener ready for what chaos is to come.

The song has an old-school punk vibe that is very easy to listen too as vocalist Christian Nielsen and company gear you up for the madness that is to come, and the madness does indeed come as the track eases you through sections of crowd worthy two-step action and a fun and memorable chorus that would get any crowd chanting along gives this track a fun edge that is much needed for a track of this style.

And after all that we get a slow but effective breakdown that while not heavy per se in tone it sets the track up for an effective end that closes the track off with a great ending that succeeds in not only closing the track off in perfect fashion, but also in raw emotion that is needed for a song of this magnitude and overall it succeeds in what the track is trying to accomplish, and that is setting you up for a fun ride of melodic-hardcore and punk bliss.

In closing, this is a perfect song to start off a new era for the band, as "The Depths" is a fun yet rewarding track that feels pit ready and with concerts coming back it's only suiting that a track like this with that much energetic bombast can get anyone excited to hear more from a band like this that shows so much promise.

Meadows are a talented group that have been killing it locally and to see them get the recognition that they deserve is incredible to see. And while "The Depths" to some could be considered generic or formulaic, the song makes up for it with leaving a lasting impression on the listener that makes them want to hear more, and that is exciting. The song is easily an instant favorite of the year thus far and will be an excellent addition to anyone's core playlists. - Samuel Cook
