Single Review | Bring Me The Horizon "DiE4u" (BMTH goes pop punk?!)

Image
"SO PULL THE TRIGGER" The time has come. After the massive release "Post Human: Survival Horror" in 2020, which signaled the return of the raw and heavy sound that Bring Me The Horizon were strongly known for in the past; fans were eager to find a super heavy and enthralling sound that in some cases had been absent since releases like "Sempiternal" or "There Is A Hell Believe Me I've Seen It, There Is A Heaven Let's Keep It A Secret" , letting people know that the band had not abandoned the metalcore infused sound that they were at one point known very strongly for. And, with the the release of their new single "DiE4u" we see the band familiar territories while also adding in new elements never before seen in their discography. What makes "DiE4u" such an interesting piece of work is the flowing perspectives of what seems like two different eras of the band's evolving sound, while also paving it's own lane to cr...

What is happening with Relient K? (Potential reunion?, breaking hiatus?, coming out of retirement?, new music?. What's up?!)

Image
If you have been around the internet for the past 10-15 years, you may have seen the name Relient K come up from time to time; whether it be from the early days of MySpace, Purevolume, and online chat rooms, to modern social tech with Facebook groups being all the rage these days in these odd times that we live in. The band has had major success in the early to mid 2000's, and even until now with their most recent output "Air For Free" hitting us way back in 2016, the band have become a unique outfit of pop punk and rock n' roll, having managed to gravitate towards that direction ever since their inception in 1998; giving fans old and new that sweet dose of spiritual infused pop punk and rock that is still well loved to this day. While the band have remained dormant for the past few years; rumors have been circulating over the internet that a potential reunion of the band could be surfacing. Rumo...

A Day To Remember - "You're Welcome" Album Review

Image
In 2021 we have already seen a drastic change in our country to get to a sense of some sort of normal. And while we're not there quite yet it is news that we've all been dying to hear. And when it comes to the music industry and where it's being led takes with it some eye rolls and wondering where has creativity gone; and on A Day To Remember's first album in five years "You're Welcome" that is the overarching question that lingers throughout the listen as you wonder how this record manages to go off the rails and never finds it's footing. Sure bands can evolve their sound as to being the reason for this record, but evolving doesn't mean sucking the soul out of a record that fans have been anticipating since 2019. So on "You're Welcome" how do the band manage to try and forego a formula that they are well known for and completely wash it out with a lazy follow up to their last record "Bad Vibrations"?. Well it's simple. ...

Five Iron Frenzy - "Until This Shakes Apart" Album Review

Image
The year is 2021. After a long year of unknowns, an ongoing pandemic, political tension, and a fight for equal rights and racial justice. 2020 brought us things that we could have never imagined but like time itself we fight through it; and with all of that came messages that struck a cord with everything around us going on in today's society. And Five Iron Frenzy one of the staples of 90's ska punk and christian alternative rock and punk manage to state their take on world events with their new record "Until This Shakes Apart" the band's first record in seven years since "Engine Of A Million Plots" in 2013. So with this task at hand what do Five Iron Frenzy manage to pull off on this record during such difficult times?. "Until This Shakes Apart" as you can tell is a very politically charged record as this record talks about things going on in our current climate while taking it's own personal take on things going on in the world, which is ...

Machine Gun Kelly - "Tickets To My Downfall" Album Review

Image
In a genre that seems on the tails of a resurgence in mainstream popularity comes well known rapper and singer Machine Gun Kelly who back in 2019 dipped his toes into pop punk and rock on his record "Hotel Diablo" which in tern set the bar for what would come on his first ever pop punk project "Tickets To My Downfall"; but there is a question that lingers, is the record a hit and a future staple of the genre? or is the record a flop and will fall into forgettable territory?. "Tickets To My Downfall" falls into two different categories with one being a record carried heavily by it's influences and the other being a record that tries to bring in modern touches to the core sound while making the record seem shallow and all over the place; but to the record's credit it does change up things here and there that keeps the record in some sort of focus. The record's opener and title track (which wittingly titled 'Title Track') is a track that s...

Lifelong - "Above The Waves" Album Review

Image
In 2020 the hardcore scene seems to be thriving and putting out some of the best material that 2020 has seen thus far and Lifelong are no exception to that. After surprising fans with their lead off singles "Above The Waves" and "Empty Roads" the band showed off two sides of this record which flow and blend perfectly from catchy pop punk hooks and aggressive hardcore tunes, making this one of the most entertaining releases of the year thus far. When the band arrived to the scene the band's more aggressive leaning "Revive The Masses" wowed fans with their faith based rallying hardcore tunes reminiscent of bands like Comeback Kid, Stretch Arm Strong, Altars. The band's debut release continues on with the same vibe while also adding it's own unique touches which aids the record to give the listener a well executed full throttle drive of melodic-hardcore glory. Former Confide members Joel Piper and Trevor Vickers really stepped up their game here a...

Neck Deep - "All Distortions Are Intentional" Album Review

Image
New eras of life can be something of beauty; and that beauty can bring on creative art. As for Neck Deep we see the band entering a new era of life full of new relationships and new endeavors. For lead vocalist Ben Barlow we see him entering a new relationship as we saw on the one-off singles "She's A God" and "Torn", and as for the band themselves they welcome new member Seb Barlow into the collective. So all of this leads up to the question what does Neck Deep bring to the table on their new album "All Distortions Are Intentional". The album is an ode to new lovers that much is apparent and the overall sappiness of the record tends to borderline on cringe with how overtly "love centric" this album is and somehow the music and the overall vibe feels tainted as a result. Now the album is still pop-punk at it's core that's still the main vibe and some of the hooks are catchy and memorable but the more cleaned up sound and the higher si...

Image
Relient K.  One of the greatest and most influential bands in both the Christian and Independent markets have one of the longest running discographies for a Christian rock band; Taking their musical journey from the edgy days of pop punk and punk rock, to the more midwestern styled days of alternative rock n' roll, to the more commercially driven days of pop rock, and even to the more indie rock styled music in recent years. Slick Shoes - "Whispers" Single Review

Image
Slick Shoes - "Whispers" Legendary punk rock band Slick Shoes have returned. After laying dormant for years the band returned in 2018 and have been going at it ever since; With the announcement of their comeback record "Rotation & Frequency" we were gifted the lead single titled "Whispers" which begs the question does this track hold up to the Slick Shoes standards?, the answer is yes as this is Slick Shoes in their truest form and has been pleasing fans thus far. This is Slick Shoes at their prime as the track shows us that this is a band that can come back after years of slumber and come back hitting harder than ever; This track feels like it could have come out of the "Self-Titled" or "Far From Nowhere" as well as a hint of "Rusty" in there for good measure. The production on this track is crisp, the riffs from Jackson Mould and Jonah Peterson are top notch, the drumming from Joe Nixon are fast paced and exhilarating, a...

Lifelong to release new single "Empty Roads" tomorrow

Image
Lifelong (Solid State Records Artist) Pop Punk / Melodic-Hardcore band Lifelong have announced that they will be releasing their second single "Empty Roads" off of their forthcoming debut album "Above The Waves" tomorrow through Solid State Records. If you are not familiar with Lifelong here's a bit of their back story. The band was formed by former Confide members Ross Kenyon, Trevor Vickers, and Joel Piper. The band released their debut independent ep "Revive The Masses" which garnered fans from both the Christian hardcore and secular hardcore scenes; After Ross exited Lifelong the band continues on as a duo. The first single "Above The Waves" carried more of a pop punk sound in the vein of bands like Four Year Strong, Chunk! No Captain Chunk!, Close Your Eyes, Set Your Goals. With this new single "Empty Roads" it sounds like we're going to get more of that hardcore sound from their debut ep. Lifelong seems to be on the right ...
